Subject: The Rocky Mountain Homeschool Conference Canceled Due to Government Restrictions
Dear Homeschool Family,
Who would have predicted that life as we know it would have changed so dramatically during the last few months? I can’t tell you how grateful I am that we put our faith in the sovereign God who is working all things for the good of those who love Him and that we can cast all of our cares upon Him!
This week, the CHEC Board of Directors concluded that we are forced to cancel the 2020 Rocky Mountain Homeschool Conference in Denver. This difficult conclusion was delayed as long as possible as we know it will affect and disappoint many homeschool families, volunteers, exhibitors, and speakers.
Colorado has begun the process of restarting business activities that were interrupted by the COVID-19 virus and government restrictions. However, looking ahead to June 25-27, the projection is that large group gatherings will be restricted to less than 100 persons. Sadly, this restriction makes putting on the conference undoable. Furthermore, easing restrictions on large gatherings is not anticipated to improve to the point where rescheduling our event later in the summer is feasible.
The Rocky Mountain Homeschool Conference is the flagship experience for the homeschool community of Colorado and tens of thousands of families have been encouraged and equipped through these events during the 30 years of our ministry.
But as God is closing the door on our conference this year, He is opening the door wide on other brand-new and exciting opportunities for our ministry! During our conference last year, one of CHEC’s board members, Chad Roach, presented our vision for the future of Colorado which included…
- 60,000 people attending our annual conference instead of 6,000
- Deserted and abandoned public schools
- A homeschool family on every city block
If you think this sounds crazy, what if I told you that in the last three months, by God’s grace,
- CHEC has had over 60,000 registrations to our online homeschool events hosted at HomeschoolSummits.com
- That ALL public schools in Colorado have been closed
- And that virtually every family on every block is suddenly schooling their children at home?
God is on the MOVE!
These are definitely exciting times for CHEC as school closures have brought dramatic attention to homeschooling in Colorado and around the country. In fact, a recent poll “found that 40 percent of families are more likely to choose to homeschool their children or engage in virtual learning once the coronavirus pandemic subsides.”
Although we cannot join together in person at the conference this year like we want to, we are asking that you would rally together with us in seizing the opportunities that lay before us.
CHEC’s annual conference is one of the ways that we planned on funding the various outreach programs that are critical to the growth of homeschooling in Colorado. In the absence of our conference, we are looking to raise an additional $40,000 during this spring and summer which will enable us to capitalize on the opportunities before us! Will you please consider supporting the growth of homeschooling in Colorado with a gift to CHEC today?
We are eager to continue to work towards the vision that God has given us for Colorado. Together, we can make a difference in how education and family discipleship is done in Colorado!
