The Craft of Story Interactive Workshop with teacher Kenny Sargent — Teen Activity

Taught by Kenny Sargent of Sargent Family Productions

Thursday, June 15th: 1:10pm–3:10pm  No Fee; Ages 13 & older, limit 120

Building on last year’s “Calling God’s Storytellers” seminar, Kenny Sargent of Sargent Family Productions will host a deep-dive, interactive workshop on the craft of great storytelling. Regardless of the chosen medium (writing, speaking, video, audio, virtual reality, etc.), the principles of a great story are timeless.

The first section of this workshop explores the key elements that make up a great story. No amount of flowing prose, visual effects, or wonderful music can make up for a weak story. Get this right, and more than half the battle is won. The second part dives into the mechanics of strong writing. Great prose can evoke powerful emotions and responses regardless of genre, medium, or style. This section explores many opportunities to strengthen the actual words on the page to achieve maximum impact. The third section focuses on identifying and streamlining your writing voice, as well as the habits and practices of great writers and communicators. There will be plenty of time for Q & A. Filled with tips and techniques, the material is a must-have for those called as God’s kingdom communicators. Bring a notebook or device.

Big Bible Stories with Kolby King — Kid's Activity

Taught by Kolby King of 330 Ministries

Thursday, June 15th: 2:30pm–3:20pm $5/student; Ages 4–12, limit 75

Adventurers and explorers have been drawn to the Arctic Pole region for centuries. As you travel north toward the pole you will find many different natural wonders and landscapes. Imagine you are part of an expedition to the Arctic Wilderness. As you travel you find yourself viewing this stunning vista. You stop and pull out your pencil to capture it. How would you begin? What if you had white pencil and black paper? In this project Sharon will guide you through the process of drawing this winter wonderland. You will learn how to use white pencil to create a masterpiece you will treasure.

Lessons in Soft Pastel: Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are gorgeous. They exude color and are strikingly beautiful. Hydrangeas are also a great subject for a newer artist to create. As student progress through this project, they will learn how to apply the pastel, how to blend it, and the basic steps to developing a fine art project.

Join team BRAVE in the Deserted Desert as they learn that health is all about moderation and self-control.

Making Your Ideas Come to Life with teacher Davy Liu — Teen Activity

The process of creativity sometimes can be dry and daunting. Davy has over 33 years of experience at major film studios such as Disney, Warner Brothers, and Lucas Films. Yet all these companies always begin with an idea, artists, producers, and a team spirit. You are invited to experience a hands-on creative process as Davy shows you all the unseen pre-production art and a backstage tour of how The Lion King was developed. You will then take what you learned and apply it to your own ideas in this workshop…. You Kendu it.

Taught by Brandee Gillham & sponsored by:
Saturday, June 17th: 2:00pm–4:00pm $20/student; Ages 13 & older, limit 65

The Lord has given us such a gift in being able to see the world around us. Even Darwin himself denounced “natural selection’s” ability to form the intricacies of the human eye, and in this workshop we will be reminded that only the Lord Himself could knit together such a complicated anatomical structure. Participants will learn amazing facts about the human eye, how to draw the human eye, build it out of clay, AND then they can take it home. We complete our workshop by dissecting a preserved cow eye.
