Looking for extra help understanding your children’s needs and finding ways to make education work well for their specific learning styles? Consider these opportunities available at the conference tailored just for homeschooling parents and their children.
- Assessments include Blocked Learning Gates, Dyslexia Screening, and Executive Function.
- They are available only with a Full Conference Family Pass for an additional fee and are limited to one child per family.
- Blocked Learning Gates Assessments will be offered in advance of the conference Bonus Day via Zoom.
- Dyslexia Screening has two options – onsite or via Zoom on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025. Onsite screenings will be in Crestone.
- Executive Function Assessments will be held onsite at the DMTC, Wednesday, June 11th, 2025 in Humboldt.
- Deadline to sign up is May 1st.
- Onsite screenings will be held at the Denver Marriott Tech Center (4900 S. Syracuse St, Denver, CO 80237).
Learning Assessment Details
Blocked Learning Gate Assessments with Dianne Craft Learning System
The Dianne Craft Learning System team will be providing screenings to identify your child’s blocked learning gates. Learning gates can be considered information pathways. When we speak of a blocked learning gate, we mean that the processing skill has not transferred into the Automatic Brain Hemisphere. The child continues to need to concentrate on the processing task because of this lack of transfer. This assessment will evaluate the effectiveness of your child’s four learning gates.
- Visual Processing Gate: The act of moving the eyes over a page from left to right is not a naturally developed trait.
- Writing Processing Gate: When the child’s visual/spatial skills, or the act of writing, haven’t transferred into the automatic hemisphere, he often looks like he’s “sloppy, lazy or unmotivated.
- Auditory Processing Gate: A child, who is suffering with an Auditory Processing Problem, generally has trouble with reading.
- Focus/Attention Gate: A child may look like he has no memory, or a true learning disability, when what is really going on is that this child has to use too much battery energy to remain focused during the instruction or completing the lesson.
The cost of participation is $15 and will be entirely donated to the Casterline Single Moms Fund.

Dyslexia Screener Assessments
Jen Parra, M.Ed., CALT, SLDS, the Executive Director of Multisensory Reading Center, along with another colleague will be providing Dyslexia Screener Assessments. This quick dyslexia screener effectively identifies key areas of reading-related skills. The Speech Sound Awareness Assessment evaluates phonological awareness by testing a student’s ability to blend and segment sounds, which is foundational for decoding. The San Diego Quick Assessment (SDQA) measures automatic word recognition and provides an approximate reading grade level to gauge overall reading development. The Z-Screener uses nonsense words to assess decoding skills and orthographic mapping, relating to the student’s ability to recognize and map word patterns. Finally, the One-Minute Read Aloud Baseline Assessment provides a snapshot of Oral Reading Fluency (ORF), determining the student’s functional reading level and fluency. Each session should take approximately 10-15 minutes, followed by another 10 minutes to discuss the initial results with the parent and schedule a more extensive consultation if needed.
The cost of participation is $15 and will be entirely donated to the Casterline Single Moms Fund.
Please note: One child per family, if you pick the “in person” time slot they will be completed at the Denver Marriott Tech Center on Wednesday, June 11th at the time you reserve. Please arrive 15 minutes early to ensure timely movement of attendees. If you pick the “via Zoom” time slot they will also be on Wednesday, June 11th during the appropriate time slot.
Executive Function Assessments
Tara Roehl, MS, CCC-SLP will be providing Executive Functioning Screenings for families with children 8 years old and older. These screenings will look at key developmental areas of planning and organization in your child including working memory, metacognition, sustained attention, task initiation, flexibility, goal directed persistence and more. The dynamic assessment will take approximately 10 minutes, followed by a 5 minute debrief with the parent(s). The cost of participation is $15 and will be entirely donated to the Casterline Single Moms Fund. Please note: One child per family. These will be completed at the Denver Marriott Tech Center on Wednesday, June 11th at the time you reserve. Please arrive 15 minutes early to ensure timely movement of attendees.
